She has competed in Masters level competitions and worked on projects around the world for over 30 years and has earned the wonderful appellation, “Sandy Feet.” She invented the job of “sandcastle instructor,” offering lessons and team building exercises to tens of thousands on South Padre Island since 1990, and reached untold numbers more with her best-selling how-to book, Sandcastles Made Simple, Step-by-Step Instructions, Tips and Tricks . . . .
She is the co-founder and producer of Sand Castle Days, a Texas-size tradition during early October each year. The festival includes amateur and professional sand carving, a Mercado, live entertainment, kids’ water slide and bouncer and bull riding competitions. Her latest project is the South Padre Island Sand Sculpture Trail, a permanent year-round exhibition of about 30 sculptures that are maintained, repaired, added to and re-carved as needed by local artists.
