Abram Waterman
Sculpting Since: 2007
Location: Prince Edward Island, Canada
Abe Waterman was born and raised in idyllic Prince Edward Island, Canada. He says has been producing artwork since he was old enough to hold crayons and use each of his diapers as a fresh canvas. (Elders in the community recall that his diapers could be called other things, but not canvases.) <
He sketched and painted in his very early years, then, about 10 years ago, began to sculpt. He uses ephemeral materials like snow and sand, and only occasionally creates more permanent works in wood and stone. He has traveled from coast to coast in Canada and the U.S., competing in contests and exhibiting his art. He has won awards at numerous events, culminating in June, 2017, when he took 2nd place at the almost rained-out Hampton Beach, NH, Master Sand Sculpting Classic, just 50 miles north of Boston. His work, appropriately titled “Out of the Box,” also won him the prestigious Sculptors’ Choice Award.
We look forward to seeing what kind of out-of-the-box creation Abram will come up with at the U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge!
